Our clients, sophisticated but unpretentious entrepreneurs with several young grandchildren and more on the way, envisioned a child-friendly beach house with plenty of room for family meals and frequent guests. They had lived in their beachfront house for years and were completely familiar with its rhythms and quirks, and they were very clear in the lifestyle the house needed to support. studioSALT came up with a design that expanded the ground floor and incorporated a much user-friendly kitchen.
The first floor was reconfigured and opened up to accommodate a master suite with a dressing room and home office, a huge lounge with its own kitchenette, and a gracious deck that took advantage of the killer views.
A great deal of effort was spent on the sizes and configurations of the windows and the sliding glass doors, to create a balance between views and usability. The owners gave a lot of thought to how they would actually use each space, and there was intense collaboration and many iterations of the layouts.
Throughout, the finishes were unfussy and easy-to-clean, and the bright white palette provided a clean backdrop that brilliantly showcased the owners’ collection of African craftsmanship as well as the owner’s line of luxury textiles.
“The spaces are a special blend of individuality and sophistication. The result is a dreamy, sun-drenched, and above all, welcoming home.”
